Why Anxiety Hides in the Body and How to Release It
Ever felt your heart race when nothing “bad” was happening? Or noticed that knot in your stomach that just won’t leave, no matter how calm you think you are? That’s anxiety hiding in your body. And until you release it, it keeps playing tricks on your mind, health, and happiness.
Anxiety doesn’t knock politely on your door. It sneaks in quietly, makes itself comfortable in your nervous system, and before you know it — your body becomes the hiding place for fear, phobias, stress, sleeplessness, and panic attacks.
But here’s the truth: the way in is the way out. If anxiety crept in through your body, that’s exactly where the healing begins.
How Anxiety Hides in the Body
When we say “I am stressed” or “I have anxiety,” or ‘My Phobia” we make it ours. We give it ownership – like saying the monster in your room is “my monster.” And the brain listens. It creates more of what you claim. The thing is, anxiety might be in your room, but it doesn’t belong to you. Although the monster is in your room – It is not your monster, and you got to command it to leave.
Here’s how it hides:
- Muscles: tight shoulders, stiff jaw, tension headaches, constant back pain.
- Gut: IBS, stomach knots, nausea, unexplained bloating. Fear loves to live here.
- Nervous system: racing heart, shallow breathing, sudden sweating, panic attacks.
- Sleep: lying awake with a spinning mind, nightmares, restless tossing.
- Kids: even children’s bodies store stress — think of bed-wetting, phobias, and nervous tics.
Nothing “goes wrong” in the body – it starts wrong. An unprocessed emotion hides itself in tissue, organs, and nerves. Over time, these stuck emotions become physical pain, phobias, sleepless nights, or anxiety disorders.
Why the Body Stores Anxiety
Everything you experience is filtered through emotion. Even when you believe you’re making a rational choice, emotions are sitting at the control panel. When emotions go unruled, undisciplined, or ignored, they create havoc: depression, low self-esteem, chronic pain, phobias, PTSD, and anxiety disorders.
Your body doesn’t lie. It remembers. When the mind says, “I’m fine,” but the body tightens, shakes, or aches, it’s a sign anxiety has taken up residence.
Think of it like a squatter: if you don’t show it the door, it makes itself at home.
Jennifer’s Story
Take Jennifer (name changed). She came to me carrying a heavy burden: anxiety about the future.
Every time she watched the news or thought about what lay ahead, her chest tightened, her heart raced, her palms sweated, and her thoughts spiralled late into the night. Headaches became her daily companion.
We worked together for three months – ten sessions using Kinesiology /Kinesiopractic Therapy, Hypnotherapy, and Brain Integration. After the very first session, her body began to exhale. She felt calmer. Each visit brought small victories: less tension, deeper sleep, more control.
As weeks passed, I watched the transformation happen not just in her emotions but in her body. She stood taller. Her skin cleared, her eyes brightened. Her laugh became deeper, genuine, bubbling up from her core.
By the ninth session, she could watch the news without a flicker of fear. Politics, future plans – all once triggers – no longer held power over her. Her world stopped being hostile and turned into a friendly playground of opportunity.
This is what happens when the “monster in the room” is shown the exit.
How to Release Anxiety from the Body
There are steps you can take right now to begin loosening anxiety’s grip:
- Breathe deeply and slowly. This calms the nervous system and tells the brain: you’re safe.
- Notice your body’s signals. Tight jaw? Tense shoulders? That’s your body whispering. Listen.
- Journal your emotions. Putting feelings on paper makes them less likely to hide in your tissues.
- Move. Walk, stretch, dance — anything that shifts stuck energy.
- Walk and stand taller – shoulders up, back straight, look the world in the eyes. Even though you don’t feel like it, it sends a message to the brain which calms you and make you feel stronger and more confident.
But often, self-help only scratches the surface. Deeply rooted anxiety, PTSD, phobias, and chronic stress need guided release.
How Kinesiopractic Therapy/ Kinesiology Helps
This is where Kinesiopractic therapy comes in. By using muscle testing and other integrated techniques, we bypass the mind’s defences and go straight to where the stress is actually stuck.
It’s like asking your body for its own truth — and then giving it permission to let go.
At my practice, I combine:
- Kinesiopractic Therapy (core work to identify and release stress from the nervous system and subconscious),
- Hypnotherapy (to reprogram anxious patterns and phobias),
- Brain Integration (to restore balance and clarity),
- Counselling & Coaching (to rebuild new emotional strength and strategies).
Because everything in your reality is coupled to emotions. Once we remove the emotional blockages, your body is free to heal, your mind is free to focus, and life feels like yours again.
Final Word
Anxiety may hide in the body, but it’s not yours to keep. You don’t have to own it, feed it, or let it control your story.
The way in is the way out. When we work with the body, we can release the monsters that no longer serve you — and create space for peace, clarity, and joy.
